Qantas crew assembled on the maintenance ramp for a farewell send-off |
July of 2020: notable as the first summer of Covid, and sadly, the end of the B747's reign in the Qantas fleet. On July 24th, the last Qantas B747 took off on its final flight from LAX to the boneyard. Despite the Covid concerns, a large group of people turned out for the mid-day departure.
Taxiing for departure: quite a procession |
Qantas operated most of the major variants of the B747, including the B747SP. The first Qantas B747 entered the fleet in 1971. If not for Covid, Qantas might have operated B747s for fifty years.
