More TBIT pix


After my previous post about the construction on the Tom Bradley International Terminal, it occurred to me that I had neglected to show you the newly-opened gates on the east side of the southern wing of the new TBIT. These gates are accessed via the C-10 alley, which also serves the west side of Terminal Four. In this shot, taken early this morning, all four of the new gates are occupied. The Qantas B747 is on gate 159, which can handle an A380. Next is a United B777 on gate 157; the adjacent United Dreamliner is on gate 155; and the American B777 is on gate 153. To the right of American, you can see where there is provision for one more gate (151), although it clearly is quite some time in the future.

Those of you who have been keeping track have no doubt noticed that we lost a gate in the process: Before the renovation, the C-10 wing of the TBIT had six gates: 101 through 106. Right now, we have the four you see, with a fifth to come. This loss is certainly offset by the five new gates on the west side of the southern wing (148-156). 

Meanwhile, on the north side, the jetways have been removed from the recently closed gates in the D-10 alley:

  1. Thanks for sharing - very nice to see the terminal coming along. I was wondering ... how come United and American are using TBIT? They have CBP facilities in their own terminals too, right?

  2. Which United and American flights arrive at TBIT? Is it similar to Chicago-O'Hare wherein the international flights arrive at the international terminal then are towed to the respective terminals for departure?

  4. With regard to the mid-field concourse, I read that it will be a structure used temporarily by residents of other terminals while their get upgraded so that there is no disruption in service. So does that mean (1) all the terminals are going to probably be torn down and rebuilt again, (2) after all the terminals have been upgraded, will it just be part of TBIT for international flights?

  5. Actually, all three of the major US carriers have flights that arrive at the TBIT. American, Delta, and United all have some of their internationals there. All reposition to their respective terminals for the departures. The ones I've noticed going to the TBIT are the ones from Asia: the Delta flight from Haneda is one that comes immediately to mind. Not all of their international arrivals go to the TBIT, though. For instance, all three have flights that arrive from Central America that park at their regular terminals.

  6. As a fellow LAX-based employee, I'll say that I enjoy this blog! With regard AA and UA (and DL) arriving at TBIT: The T-4 FIS is closed, though AA is planning to reopen it in the near future. The T-6/7 FIS (AS & UA) and T-5 FIS (DL) have limited hour operations. For instance, the T-6/7 FIS operates from (IIRC) 09:00 to 18:00. The T-5 FIS operates similarly.
