What's wrong with this picture? II & III

I just realized that it's been ten days since I've posted; apparently I don't have much worth sharing right now. However, I do have a collection of post drafts that I've started but not published, and so I'm pulling a couple of photos from there and putting them together here, as they originally were intended to be items in the What's wrong with this picture? series. The irony is that I'm not sure I remember now what it was that made these two shots candidates for the series in the first place, so good luck!

It's time once again for everyone's favorite feature: What's wrong with this picture?




This mini-series was so popular before, that I now try to keep my eyes open for new opportunities. Some, like this one, may not be as obvious as the earlier ones. So, what's wrong with this picture?

  1. In the first picture, it looks like there are too many jets in the confined area...

  2. I'm guessing the mismatched tail on the Southwest plane in the middle of the first picture and the nearest engine in the second picture.

  3. With the Southwest guys it's either that you have someone backing out of gate 1 with someone else either moving into or backing out of what look like gate 6 - or that one of the parked 737s has the "gold/copper" scheme for the tail, but the "blue" scheme on the body.

    With that DHL DC-8 it appears that a Delta 757 has somehow found its way rather far south on the field.

  4. Don't know about the 1st one, looks like normal T1 to me, but the DL bird is taxiing on the far south taxi way because 25R was shut down for a few days.

    I always loved to see the DHL DC-8 go because I knew then that my shift was 1/2 over and I could escape from the rest of the blue shirts in a few hours. (Escaped on disability 7 years after the initial injury)

    Been listening to the tower the last few nights to keep my mind off the heat, there's a few new voices up there I think. Tell the guy with the Scots accent that it's a nice voice. LOL.

  5. Not sure whats wrong other than its cool to see a DC-8. Could it be that the DC-8 is too loud to operate out of LAX in the daytime?

  6. #1 - can't tell but SWA sure does pack them in tight. At first I wasn't sure where that 2nd 737 was going, but after studying the layout it appears its going to squeeze into 3 after the first one parks at 1.

    #2 - Only odd thin I can think of is - why is the DL 757 on the outer (southern-most?) taxiway? Was it routing to see the shuttle or something?

  7. On the first shot, I hope the SW entering the alley on the left wasn't planning to go into the gate the SW on the right was just pushed out from. It will be a tight squeeze!

    As for the second shot, DL is on the "wrong" side of the 25's. Maybe a good place to await a "wheels up" time?

  8. A catering truck at a Southwest plane?
    In the other picture, both planes seem to be at the 'wrong' side of the South complex.
    The DHL DC-8 (is anybody else still flying these?) is taking off from 25R (after presumably being loaded on ramp A, while
    The Delta 757 (a carrier normally operating out of T5) seems to taxi back on Alpha, apparently having crossed both runways.

  9. In the lower picture, the DHL DC-8 is departing on Runway 25R, instead of Runway 25L, which is closer to the cargo complex. The Delta 757 is taxiing on taxiway Alpha, toward the cargo complex, instead of on taxiway Bravo.

  10. Not sure about the first photo at T-1; in the second photo, is the DHL taking off on 7R? I know that LAX was on East traffic the other day.
