Photo puzzle of the day

Take a look at this shot I took a few days ago. It shows one of Southwest's new B737-800s parked at gate 4B. Notice anything interesting?

  1. Only thing out of the 'ordinary' I can see is that the gate power is inop and a gpu is supplying power.

  2. The hump on the upper fuselage, satellite?

    1. Southwest has started adding satellite internet to some of its aircraft, an area in which they've been lacking compared to some of their competitors like Jet Blue and Virgin America; that's not where I'm going with this puzzle, though . . .

  3. It's got red on the wings to let ground crew know its a 737-8?

    1. Good eye, but this is not really new for the -800; Southwest started painting the flap track fairings orange with the -700s, which like the -800, have a longer wingspan than the older models.

  4. ETOPS on the nose gear door is quite surprising.

  5. Thing that stood out to me is the lack of ground crew. Looks like a scene from The Langoliers.
