. . . to leave the camera at home. I didn't mean to, but naturally not having it meant that there was a plethora of things that I would have liked to get shots of. Lots of things happened at LAX today:
- American started service to a number of new destinations, mostly via American Eagle. Eagle has recently added two new gates at LAX, giving them a total of eight. Eagle has also brought back CRJ7s to LAX; we last saw them here when Eagle flew to Fayetteville, Arkansas, a route now covered by Allegiant. Many of the new destinations seem to go head-to-head with United, who already serves them via Skywest. The ones I noticed include Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Boise, Albuquerque, and Salt Lake City. With 63 or 65 seats, the CRJ7s are larger than the 44-seat E140s that Eagle continues to fly out of LAX, and seem to be suited for longer flights.
- Singapore showed up with a B777-300 today, the first of theirs I recall seeing here. It replaced the B747 that normally arrives around lunchtime. This has been a trend among a number of the long-haul carriers: Air France, Air New Zealand, All Nippon, EVA Air, and Japan Air all used to bring in B747s but now use B777s at LAX.
- The American Airlines DC-3 Flagship Detroit arrived at Terminal 4, and was parked at Gate 41 - which normally hosts B747s and B777s. That doubles, if only temporarily, the DC-3 population at LAX. Hopefully they won't need fuel, since Avgas is not available at LAX, and the engines on a standard DC-3 won't run on Jet A.
Wish I'd had the camera handy . . . (sigh)
Ahh CV!!! C'mon man! Would have loved to see that DC-3. I think United has one too, It came through PHX years ago. You mention another DC-s, who's is it?
