What's special about this picture?

There's nothing wrong with this picture, but there is something unusual about it. Here's a hint: It was taken last weekend.

  1. Is it that all of those AA planes would have been going to the East Coast?

  2. Other than the three A-380s you can see way out past Malibu?

    1. Not in this photo, although it is the season; we went east for a few hours just yesterday.

  4. Qantas still flies their 744? Or are the A380s having problems that day?

    1. We get both Qantas B744s and A380s on a daily basis, and sometimes (in the off season) an A332.

  5. Three Qantas jets. Isn't that a lot to visit at the same time?

    1. Actually, there are times when we have five Qantas heavies on the ground at once!

  6. In adition to the three Airbus A380s (and two other Airbii) I suppose this is about the American Airlines aircraft hiding from winterstorm "Nemo" back east.
Are they all 767s? The proportions on the left most AA look different. I tried zooming out, but pixels turn into squares rapidly.

    1. Pretty sure they're all B767s, but American still operates -200s and -300s between the coasts, so it may be a mix.

  7. Looks to my untrained eye as if the Southwest 737 has landed while the other plane was still on its takeoff roll.

    1. Good eye - that did happen - The SkyWest E120 took off from 24 Left as Southwest arrived on 24 Right. We do this all the time, unless the weather is just absolutely awful. Same thing happens on the south side of the airport. Doing it on the same runway is frowned upon though!

  8. It looks like there is a lot of AA metal on the ramp in front of the Qantas A380. Was that because of the blizzard back east

    1. You got it! American wasn't the only carrier affected; the United ramp was full, as was the west end. This was just the best shot I had.

  9. Now since QF (Qantas) has cut back their flights here at LAX .... You can see at least 3 of their planes sitting at the QF hangar 6 days a week. On Mondays, you can see 2 QF planes sitting at the hangar.
