Okay, I know it's getting old, so this will be the last of these for a while. They were taken a day after the full moon - you can just see it starting to wane. The opening shot was taken just before sunrise; the lower shot some time after.
No moon in this one, but it appeals to me:

Saw a FedEx plane land onto one of the northern runways from the west this morning. Was that an emergency landing?
ReplyDeleteI don't think so - I didn't hear any mention of an emergency. If it was early morning, say before 6:30 or so, we were probably still in "over-ocean" configuration, which is what we do for noise abatement on overnight shifts. Over ocean operations have arrivals coming in over the beach and landing on the north complex, while departures take off from the south complex headed towards the water. When the departures reach the shoreline, they make a turn to the south, away from the arrival path. There are a bunch of conditions that have to be met in order for us to run this operation, including relatively benign winds and decent ceiling and visibility.
