First off, I love your blog. Found it a few weeks back and managed to read every blog post you've made. Now it's one of the aviation blogs I can't wait to get a post from.
Looking at that last picture and seeing the engines, I'm going to guess it's a 747-8F. Any idea why it was at LAX?
Well I think it's a test bed aircraft since it has the newer engines on it. Looks like the 747-8 / 787 engines. Also I love the blog, I only wish I could see that view one day.
Great shots. I really enjoy this blog as you give some real insight into what goes on in the tower. These look like shots of a 747-8 test plane. Looking at the wing shape, it is not the shape of a 200 or 300 and definitely not a 400. I did not know testing was going to include LAX though.
That is a brand new, and very rare, B748. Coincidentally, a picture which you posted at 7:48. Ironic coincidence or a subtle hint? Great catch either way :) --Mark
Holy cow! It must have been a slow weekend out there -- I don't think any other post has generated this level of comments. Most of you correctly identified this as a Boeing 747-8F, which is in flight testing and is still registered as an Experimental. This was not its first visit to LAX, but was the first time that I was there with the camera handy.
A couple of follow-on thoughts:
If I'd known you guys were so interested in all-white airplanes, I would have shown you some a long time ago!
Next time, I'm not giving you a clear shot of the registration number -- that's too easy!
While this isn't one of NASA's space shuttle transporters, we may get to see one of those here someday, making a delivery.
Special props to Mark, who noticed the sneaky hint -- I wondered if anyone would notice that -- Well done!
And I like the ghost plane suggestion, so I added a fourth shot - enjoy!
I was watching LAX live webcam http://www.cargolaw.com/lax_webcam.html (For those who are interesred) and i saw this exact Boeing 747 and thought nothing of it being a 747-8 Freighter lol untill a few days ago when i found the pic i saved of it .... i origanally thought it was a unmarked Kalitta Air B742
