Shot of the day: A380 3-fer

If you want to see A380s at LAX, the best time is usually shortly after lunchtime. That's when we have the highest concentration of A380 operations, and thanks to CG, HR, and SM, I caught all three of them together in this shot today. Singapore has just arrived, and is pulling into gate 123. Korean is on departure roll on runway 24 Left, while Air France has just landed on 24 Right.

What's wrong with this picture, revealed

As many of you have noted, this Copa B737 has lost its tug. This unusual turn of events took place while two ground trainees and a tower trainee were working the south side of the airport, and it made for an interesting training session. What's not shown in any of the pictures, because I didn't have the camera ready, is that when the tug initially died, the tug/aircraft combination were right in the middle of the intersection that is seen just behind the tail of the aircraft in this shot. For those of you who don't know, that is Taxiway P -- and it's the most heavily-used crossing point on the south side of the airport: Most of the Runway 25 Left arrivals cross 25 Right via Taxiway P.  The disabled tug blocked the intersection for about five minutes before the driver managed to get it to move just enough to pull the B737 out of the intersection, which is where we see it in this photo. It was another ten minutes before a replacement tug arrived on the scene:

Time for what seems to be everyone's favorite feature: What's wrong with this picture?  This shot was taken a couple of mornings ago during one of our busy periods, and shows part of the south side of the airport: That's Terminal 4 in the foreground. So, what's wrong with this picture?

Shot of the Day

One of the guys pointed this out to me a few weeks ago, and I nearly missed it fumbling with the camera. Not sure what to call this; perhaps Ray of Hope?

In other news, LAX got a new ground controller today; congrats to MO on his checkride on what some have called the hardest ground control in the FAA. Now on to Local!
